Chocolate Chip Cake

Vanilla-based cake with cinnamon sugar and chocolate chips.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 lb. butter
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 pint sour cream
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 C. flour (pre-sifted)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 C. sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 16 oz. chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350F.
  2. Cream butter, sugar, and eggs in a mixing bowl. Add sour cream and vanilla, and blend well. Add sifted dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, and baking soda).
  3. Sift together 1/2 C. sugar and 1 tsp. cinnamon.
  4. Pour 1/2 of batter into a tube pan and sprinkle with 1/2 of the cinnamon sugar and a few of the chocolate chips. Don't let too many chips get close together or the cake will not bake evenly. Spread them out with your fingers if necessary.
  5. Add remaining batter and repeat with the cinnamon sugar and chocolate chips.
  6. Bake at 350F for 1/2 hour. Test for doneness with a piece of wire or a toothpick. If still gooey, bake for another 5-10 minutes.
